About Relocational Astrology

A birth chart or horoscope is, quite simply, a diagram of the sky as seen from your birth place at the exact moment you were born. It reveals which planets were visible in the sky above the horizon, which were invisible beneath it, and which planets were in the eastern or western half of the sky. Classic relocation astrology creates a new, imaginary "birth chart" showing how the sky would have appeared had you been born in a differentlocation, at exactly the same moment of time. The idea behind this is that your experience of any location is colored by the planetary imprint found there at the moment of your birth, no matter where you were actually born.

Think of it this way: If you are born in San Francisco at 9:00 AM in December, the Sun would appear relatively low in the East. At that same moment, in New York City, it would be noon, and the Sun would appear overhead. And, of course, along with the Sun, all of the planets change position relative to the horizon.
Diagram: A birth chart's 4 power points are behind the concept of relocational astrology.
Diagram of a birth chart showing the four power points?the rising (Ascendant), setting (Descendant), noon (Midheaven), and midnight (IC? sometimes called Nadir) points of the Sun.
There are four key power pointsin each birth chart (See diagram). These power points are: the eastern horizon, where the Sun rises (the Ascendant), the western horizon, where the Sun sets (the Descendant), the Sun's noon pointwhere, it culminates (Midheaven) and the Sun's midnight point?the anti-culmination point (IC?sometimes referred to as the Nadir).
They are considered power points because the Sun's motion across these areas of the sky each day, defines shifts in the day/night cycle. They differentiate morning from afternoon (Sun crossing Midheaven), afternoon from night (Sun crossing Descendant), one day from the next (Sun crossing IC), and night from day (Sun crossing Ascendant).

If, in your birth chart, a planet is found very close to one of these power points,or angles, then the part of your nature that planet represents is more pronounced than if it were located elsewhere.

Astro*Carto*Graphy: brings Relocational Astrology into the 21st Century

The astrological principles behind the Astro*Carto*Graphysystem are those of classic relocation astrology. The idea behind relocational astrology, is that, at each moment, somewhere on Earth each planet is rising, setting, culminating, and anti-culminating. By discovering where each of the planets were angular (at a power point) at the moment of yourbirth, we can identify locations that hold more promise for you, as well as locations that you might wish to avoid.

And you don't even have to actually visit a location in order to take advantage of positive planetary energies there! For instance, a location where the planet Venus is angular is considered more advantageous for attracting love relationships. There are many couples in the Astro*Carto*Graphy true life stories files, that highlight couples who were born at each other's Venus lines, even if they met and live in another location entirely. The same principle applies to potential business locations. You may do very well attempting to gain clients from an area that is highlighted as a potentially good one for business, without actually having to live or work there.

In the past, in order to understand how the astrology of a location would impact an individual, an astrologer would need to do complex, time consuming and tedious calculations foreach and every location of interest. However, the combination of computers and the innovative thinking of Jim Lewis (Astro*Carto*Graphy's inventor) allows us to easily scan anA*C*G map to know each of our best places on Earth.

Since there are 10 planets (including the Sun and Moon), multiplied by 4 power points (rising, setting, culminating, anti-culminating), there are 40 planetary lines spanning eachAstro*Carto*Graphy map.

While the maps simplify the process of relocation astrology greatly, and while each map comes with it's own interpretation booklet, the system is still a complex one. It's recommended that you choose a Certified Astro*Carto*Grapher to interpret your map.
