First Longer Day

In the olden days, Iranians celebrated the arrival of the First Longer Day on Solstice Day. They would stay up the night before, eating and being very merry. Huge bonfires would light up the sky. In Persian we call that night "Shabeh Yalda". Many thousands of years later, the astrologers of Iran saw the alignment of inner planets so brightly over Bethlehem, and paid respect to the arrival of Jesus Christ. Later on the Pope Gregory decided to assign the 25th with the Christian New Year beginning a week later.
