One thing that has stuck with me ever since the saga of 1979 and keeps coming back to haunt me is this so called notion of "Iranian Student". Somehow the world press has a weak spot for "students", and in particular "Iranian students". If we had a "women" or "special needs" people protesting, it would not make headline news would it? Can you imagine for a second, "Iranian wheelchairers block the entrance to the US Embassy" as a headline. Those editors of Reuters and AP would scoff at that. But remind them that they were once students, and they will immediately send a reporter there to listen to what a bunch of spoilt students are screaming about.
And Ahmadinejad has managed to capitalise on that really well. He started off doing just that in 1979 with organizing students who were followers of the Imam. I could not believe it then, and I still cannot believe it now, how modern thinking students would fall for some 1400 year old useless dogma. At one point in 1979 they were listening to Beatles and Rolling Stones, and the other moment they were listening to Ayatollah Khomeini. What kind of a human being does that. Rock and Roll in Qom? No Way. You will not find any guetto blaster maniacs in Qom. The only loud noise you will hear once in a while in Qom, is some prat up on a minaret selling islamic propaGANDa.
So folks I think the world press has been royaly had by the so called "Students" in Iran. And this prat Ahmadinejad is the culprit. He uses the "Students" propaganda to get the new wires printing and creating legitimacy for his cause. We are presented with a list of I do not know how many signatories, and we are led to believe that it is the gospel truth. And the world press laps it up. No one dares to scrutinize it. What if this list of signatories was made of women or senior citizens, or some other minority. There are over a million Christians and Jews in Iran; what if we had a million of their signatores. That would make Ahmadinejad's list (which is probably fabricated) look very short.
So what is this latest list about this time? Oh it is of course the Nuclear fiasco that's been boring us to tears now for so long. How many times have the various people in world got around and make political hoo haa about it? Nightmare. Waste of time. So many people in Iran are wound up every evening watching the News thinking that the so called "Students" are going to drive EU UN GWB and the Israelis mad and trigger an attack. Yes it is true. The people in Iran make that connection. Media violence in Iran is immense, and one way to annoy people and remind them who is in charge, is to keep dramatising the notion that the country is in danger of imminent attack and the "students" have legitimate rights. As if there are any students that want to create a world nightmare. There aren't of course, but Ahmadinejad's propaGANDa apparatus pretends there are. The students of Iran are after jobs and money, and if they protested about that they would get shot.
